Beijing, China, April 22, 2025 - Renesas Electronics (TSE: 6723), a global semiconductor solutions provider, today announced the launch of an ARM-based semiconductor solution. Cortex? The RA0E2 microcontroller (MCU) built with the M23 processor. This series of new products has significant cost competitiveness, offering extremely low power consumption while having a wider temperature range, and is equipped with a variety of peripheral functions and reliable safety features.

Renesas launched the RA0 MCU series in 2024. With its high cost performance and low power consumption features, this series of products quickly won the favor of a large number of customers. Among them, RA0E1 has been widely applied in many fields such as consumer electronics, home appliances and white goods, power tools, and industrial monitoring.


The RA0E2 MCU is compatible with the RA0E1 product. It expands the pins while maintaining the same peripherals and ultra-low power consumption. This compatibility allows customers to reuse existing software resources. The new product brings the industry's outstanding low power consumption: its power consumption in working mode is only 2.8mA, and it is as low as 0.89mA in sleep mode. In addition, its integrated high-speed on-chip oscillator (HOCO) enables extremely fast wake-up times for this series of MCUS, allowing the RA0 MCU to maintain software standby mode for A longer time and further reducing power consumption to only 0.25μA.


Renesas' RA0E1 and RA0E2 ultra-low power MCUS have created ideal solutions for battery-powered consumer electronics, small household appliances, industrial system control and building automation applications.


A feature set optimized for low cost
The feature set of RA0E2 has been meticulously optimized and is specifically designed for cost-sensitive applications. It supports a wide operating voltage range of 1.6V to 5.5V, which means that customers do not need to install additional level converters/regulators in a 5V system. The RA0 MCU integrates timers, serial communication, analog functions, functional safety functions and data security mechanisms, which can effectively reduce the BOM cost of customers. In addition, the product also offers a variety of packaging options, including a 5mm x 5mm 32-pin QFN micro package.

In addition, the high-precision (±1.0%) HOCO equipped in the new MCU can significantly enhance the baud rate accuracy, eliminating the need for designers to use additional independent oscillators. Unlike other HOCO, this HOCO can maintain this accuracy in an environment ranging from -40°C to 125°C. Such a wide temperature range enables customers to avoid expensive and time-consuming "fine-tuning" operations even after the reflux process.


Daryl Khoo, Vice President of the Embedded Processing Marketing Division at Renesas, said: "The market response of the RA0 series products has far exceeded our initial expectations." The RA0E2 product group of MCUS, with its ultra-low power consumption and price advantage, as well as a wider temperature range and larger memory capacity, will open up more application scenarios and cases. We plan to further expand the RA0 product lineup to provide the best solutions for users transitioning from 8-16-bit MCUS to 32-bit MCUS.

The brand-new RA0E2 series MCUS are supported by Renesas' highly scalable configuration software package (FSP). FSP offers all the infrastructure software needed for development, including multiple RTOS, BSPS, peripheral drivers, middleware, connectivity, networking and security stacks, as well as reference software for building complex AI, motor control and cloud solutions, thereby accelerating the application development process. It enables customers to integrate their existing code and the selected RTOS with the FSP, creating full flexibility for application development. Customers can easily migrate the existing RA0E1 design to the larger RA0E2 series products with the help of FSP according to their own needs.
